Writing Updates

Hopefully, all of you know that I’m a writer. But, I have just about never posted story updates, or what I’m currently working on. Really, I have never given anyone except my inner circle many updates about my writing or the way I go about it, which needs to change. If you’re reading this, then you are supporting my writing, and you have every right to know what you’re supporting. Hence, here are my writing updates, what I’m working on, and just some of the many people God has given who continue to help guide and support me.
Writing Updates
So I’ve been seriously writing since I was fourteen years old, and I am now about to graduate. So, what have I accomplished over that time? Excellent question.
First, I found my niche genre. You may have noticed that many of the stories on my blog have a sadder note. I actually received a comment once saying, “Everyone on this blog keeps dying!” Well, as I kept writing and figuring out the stories I love to tell, they end up playing with a lot of emotion and pain. Hence, I found a love for tragic, dark fantasies.
Now, I know that both dark fantasy and tragedy get bad wraps as they end up being misused genres. Similar to romance or horror, though to a lesser extent. However, I feel that this is all the more reason for me to write in the genre. God can use this genre just as he can use any other, and I doubt I’d have a passion for it otherwise.
Second, so now that you know what I write, how much have I actually written in this? Another great question! I have written five full length novels, two of which are epics. You may have heard me mention some of them in passing. Stone Less (dark-fantasy, tragedy), Dreamer (again dark-fantasy, tragedy), Killer’s Curse (dark-fantasy, allegory), Glass Weavers (dark, science fantasy), At the Ring of a Bell (fantasy). Technically, At the Ring of a Bell will be a trilogy, but we’ll see when I stop obsessing over all my other story ideas and write the last two books.
Even though I don’t mention it as much as I maybe should, I have been writing. So if you’ve been worried that my writing has been dying out with the decrease in posts and such, rest assured it’s still alive and well. Hopefully, I’ll publish these stories someday.
What I’m Working On
First, I am working on a brand new novel at the moment, which I’m currently calling Haunted Voices. Based on the 20,000ish words in outlines (one of my process changes was the obsessive desire to outline), it reminds me of if Phantom of the Opera and The Scarlet Letter got squished together then thrown in a blender. Right now, I have no clue if that’s a good thing or not.
I’d like to write this story purely over the course of November, but I am starting to think it’ll be longer than I originally planned, which means it will likely take longer than planned.
Second, I have started proofreading for Havok Publishing, which is kinda ironic given all the little typos that like to sneak into my posts (glares at commas). So far, it has been going well, and I hope to keep working with them. However, they are currently just seeing if I’ll be a good fit. So, if you’re willing, that is something I’d love prayer for. They have published me in the past, and I love their mission.
Who God Has Blessed Me With
There are way too many people to count who have helped me with my writing. For instance, all of you reading this have supported my writing, and I can’t thank you enough for that. But I never would’ve started sharing my writing with all of you if it weren’t for these amazing people.
First is my oldest friend and first ever reader. Bellina was the first person I ever told about my stories, and she ended up being the first one to ever read one of my novels. She has been absolutely amazing, and I adore her!
Second is my fellow blogger and Havok volunteer, Molly McTernan. She showed me the ropes of running my email list and fixing up my blog. That helped me so much. I would really recommend checking out her blog and looking into her poetry novella.
Third is my best friend, Claire. Over the years, she has read so many of my snippets and short stories, as well as one of my novels. This girl is so insanely busy but has still made that time to help me and listen to me vent about my writing too many times to count. I love you, Claire!
Fourth are my parents. Both have been incredibly supportive of my writing even though it’s a field that they know nothing about. Thank you for being so awesome!
Fifth is my mentor, Andrea Renee Cox. She has helped coach me through so many writing dilemmas and answered a thousand of my ridiculous questions. I would really suggest going to her blog and checking out her books.
Sixth is my theater director Mrs. Nelson and my writing teacher Mrs. Larson. I have always loved stories, but both these women helped bring into focus just how much I want to tell and share them. I always adored staying after classes to talk to them about the arts and stories.
Seventh is my writing buddy. This one is fairly new, but I have recently started writing with one of my close friends from camp, Charlie. He’s a writer as well, and I’ve been helping him write more consistently. Honestly, writing with someone else has been so much fun, especially since we can bounce ideas off each other when we get stuck.
Well, seven is the number of completion, so I’ll be done here. Check out my email list if you enjoyed this post and would like to be notified for more like it. God bless you and have a wonderful day!
