Verily Verily The Good Shepherd
by Claire B.
. . . . .
Verily, verily,
The King of all Kings
Come to the earth
As a babe of all things.
Verily, verily
He grew up to be
The humblest shepherd
You e’er did see.
Verily, verily,
He helped all the poor
Trying to teach them
What He has in store
Verily, verily,
His very own sheep
Turned on their shepherd
The wages they’d keep
Verily, verily,
By the sheep’s hand
The good shepherd died
Saying, “I understand”.
Verily, verily,
The sheep, they all thought
“the shepherd is gone,
Life and death all for naught.”
Verily, verily
The sheep were all wrong
The shepherd had expected
This all along
Verily, verily,
In three days time
The shepherd returned
Having paid the sheep’s fine
Verily, verily,
When some sheep found out
They rejoiced at the news
Then went back to shout
“Verily, verily!
Our fellow sheep,
Our shepherd is back!
Him the grave couldn’t keep!”
Verily, verily,
Some sheep came home
Back to the shepherd
No longer alone.
Verily, verily,
All you sheep who
Come back to the shepherd
Will find safety too.

I've always had a strong appreciation towards the word 'verily', so this poem really made me happy. I also loved the way you referred to us as the sheep and Jesus as the shepherd. Well, done, Claire B!!
