Ignite

 Ignite Review

It has been my recent privilege to get to read Ignite by Kara Swanson. I’ve loved every book I’ve ever read by this author, and this story was no different. So without further ado, let’s dive right into my review of this amazing book.

Plot: This book was definitely plot driven, and wonderfully so. In this broken world with a dying sun, Mara’s only chance of saving herself and her flock is to avoid their sworn enemy, the Hollow. The tension all throughout this book and the twists and turns were so marvelous.

Characters: Mara, in truth, I do think could’ve used a bit more development, however, she was definitely an engaging character whose internal struggle was clear throughout the story. She managed to be both be a strong female lead while being broken. In modern stories that’s an increasingly rarer combination. She faced the pains of abuse, depression and loss and yet was still strong, humble and compassionate.

Mara’s love interest, Eli, is so sweet and gentle. His constant willingness to give everything for those he loves makes him a character that you can’t help but fall for. He contrasts perfectly with his older brother, Jude, who is a stubborn, protective and insanely handsome character.

Content Warnings: Abuse, demonic characters, human sacrifices, and fantasy violence

Overview: This is the perfect book for anyone who wants to read an epic fantasy that deals with heavy topics from the worldview of a Christian author. This was such a unique and fanciful story, yet it’s also relatable and powerful.

If you have not yet ordered your copy, now is the time to do so!

  1. I'm actually very glad to read this, because I joined Kara's street team and preordered Ignite without knowing how...deep...some of her other stories were. πŸ˜ΆπŸ˜… Do the content warnings you mentioned go into much detail?

    1. For human sacrifice specifically it doesn't go into much detail. It's really just mentioned in passing. I can't say the same for the others however. Overall I don't think this book is any darker than her others.
      I hope this was helpful!
