2023 Poetry Contest: Second Place

 Sacrifice

There seems to be no hope

The fighting is worse than thick

The troops of freedom almost overrun

They don't have much time to flee

So that they may fight another day

But the brave ones step forward

They declare that they won't allow

The Enemy to capture the army

So they step forward,

Stop their retreat

And fire at the enemy

To save their comrades

So that they may live to fight for liberty

Another day

So falling, falling,

With their blood spilled upon the ground

They gave their all,

Showed the greatest form of love

By laying down their lives

So that their friends, descendants,

And precious liberty

Could have another chance
