Lonely Are The Brave

Lonely Are The Brave

So many of my friends have fallen. The enemy is wicked, deceitful. I limp through the battlefield, echoes of the war all around me. I’ve been wounded, too, but I know I’m better off than most.

My armor still glows, a sure sign that God has won. Satan tried to attack me, take me down with him. But I trusted in the Lord my God, and we have won over all. Many of my fellow Christians have fallen to this ongoing battle, but I haven’t. This war is the most trying experience of my life.

Some have died spiritually, some physically. I will miss them all, but those who suffered spiritual deaths still have a chance. And those who suffered physical deaths are even more joyful now, for they are with their King.

I glance upwards, kneeling down in prayer. My eternal God is over it all. I see Him above me, see His wondrousness.

“Son, you have done good,” he tells me. Joy fills my heart as He reaches down, and brings me up with Him. This war isn’t over. But I know I have won. Satan can’t touch my soul now.

. . . . .

The heart monitor flatlines, fading to a steady beeping. The mother holds her children tight, watching as her husband takes his last breath. She knows he is with the Lord, and that brings her joy even through the pain.

“Mommy, why’s Daddy sleeping so long?” her littlest one asks. She strokes her head.

“Baby, he’s not sleeping. He went with Jesus.”

    “He did?”

“Yes. Your daddy was a great warrior.” She kissed the top of her children’s heads. “And you are too.”
